Advertising Writing Assignment

This assignment was hard to put together because it required a lot of background research in order to complete it. However, the fact that I had a partner made it easier to split the workload and complete it. After we finished the first draft, one issue I noticed was that we were not specific enough in identifying certain aspects of the project, such as direct competitors. We worked together to fix those issues, but some of the main comments on our graded copy included asking “why” or “how.” We worked together to further specify our research to correct the mistakes better market to our target audience, making the final copy of our paper more effective in advertising.

Strategic Writing Assignment

The strategic writing assignment was another project that was easier for me to complete because of my background with news writing. This assignment was different, however, because this time I had to come up with my own quotes, making it a bit easier to complete. It took me longer to complete the assignment because I wanted to make sure it sounded like a real news release would, so I had to do a little bit more research when it came to this topic. However, the extra work paid off because I received a 98 on the assignment. The graded and final copies are the same because after receiving the grade, there were not any comments on my graded copy to correct. However, I learned how to write a news release from this assignment which will be beneficial to my career down the road.

Informative Writing Assignment

The informative writing assignment was easier for me to complete based on my current knowledge on AP style and journalistic writing background. However, there were a fair share of errors in the first draft that I had to correct. One of the main ones was at the beginning in the lead paragraph. It was lacking the important information that draws the reader in and informs them what the issue being covered in the article is about. I managed to reword it after Alicia’s corrections and present it in the inverted pyramid style that informs readers from the very beginning of the issue at hand. Other than that issue, the small ones were grammatical and easy to fix, such as capitalizing the title of the article and italicizing titles of sources. My paper drastically improved from my first to final draft because I was able to correct it in a way that made it more informative and interesting for the reader.

This assignment was harder to complete because it was a group project, and everyone had to collaborate to make sure it was well thought out and followed all the required guidelines. However, everyone for the most part worked together and got the assignment done in a timely and presentable manner. One issue I noticed was that some of the parts of the assignment in the initial draft were too wordy and relied heavily on quotes instead of explaining how they related to the topic. I managed to get rid of some of the quotes and instead explain how they related to the topic after having the paper peer reviewed. Another issue that I noticed was some issues with citing our sources. While some of the information was knowledge-based, there were some things we forgot to cite, so I made sure to go back and double check. After getting our grade back, we worked together to correct grammatical errors and flow errors, such as explaining how everything tied back to the topic. The final paper has improved from the graded copy because we were able to fix the errors and explain our topic in more detail.

Business Writing Assignment

There were a few typos I noticed throughout the first draft of the business writing assignment, mostly because I tried to finish it quickly due to other work. However, upon peer review, most of the typos were pointed out to me and corrected. Another issue I noticed was that some of my points in the initial draft were too lengthy and needed to be more concise. I managed to condense the points down and combine them when necessary, as well as eliminate some that were unnecessary. The cover letter was where I needed the most help; I struggled at first to write four paragraphs that summarized and explain my purpose of application. However, once I had it reviewed by the people at my table, I was able to fix it and make it into the four necessary paragraphs that got the point of the assignment across. My paper drastically improved from my first to final draft because other people pointed out mistakes I did not notice at first or needed help on. While the graded version was not perfect, it was much better than what I started out with.
